Frameless glass is heavier than its framed counterpart; therefore, we recommend blocking or "deadwood" in place on any walls where frameless glass will be attached. This is most important on the wall where you intend the door to be hinged. We also recommend that any horizontal surfaces such as entry curb, storage niche, or bench have a slight slope toward the shower drain. Other outages on walls or curbs are common, but significant outages might affect the design of your enclosure. This can be determined by our technician at the time of assessment. We encourage you to stop by or call our office for a free consultation at any point during your design phase so that we can help you achieve your ideal bathroom.
We can generally schedule your assessment within 1-2 business days. We ask that you not schedule the assessment until the tile has been complete. If you want to receive the most prompt service, we recommend you call roughly a week before the tile will be finished so that we can plan to arrive the day after tile work has been completed.
There are many misnomers in the market for impact glass: hurricane glass, safety glass, tempered glass. "Impact glass" specifically refers to two monolithic glass panes that have been laminated and then heat strengthened. It will commonly come with a stamp showing a Florida Product Approval Number, which qualifies that glass for Class A opening protection on your wind mitigation form. It is also most common to insulate impact glass, meaning the addition of a spacer and another pane of glass to create trapped air.
It is sometimes possible, although rare, to simply exchange the existing glass with impact rated glass. Be advised that Florida Code does have requirements for the glass and the window/door frame that houses the glass. You should always check with your wind mitigation inspector prior to exchanging any glass to ensure that you will receive the proper rebate once complete.
Yes! The most common solution for foggy or milky glass is to exchange the insulated glass unit with a new one. This is a relatively straightforward process and can be done in 30-60 minutes for most residential applications.
Generally, yes. Most hardware can be replaced relatively simply. There is an assessment charge on hardware requests to be determined based on your proximity to our office. You will be advised of any charges in advance. To offset charges you may bring us the piece of hardware to be matched or use an application such as Google Lens to aid in matching the part.
